Umpires
Become an Umpire!
We can’t play the game we love without umpires. By training as an umpire, you’ll learn the rules, build confidence, and develop the skills to make quick decisions and read the game.
Umpiring grows your netball knowledge, builds life skills, and helps you become a better player – while also earning money and giving back to the sport you love.
No umpires = no netball.

Green Shirt Umpires
The Green Shirt Umpiring Program is a practical course designed to develop beginner umpires of all ages, with the goal of achieving a National C Badge.
Introduced in 2007, the program has successfully encouraged more people into umpiring and supported their development across netball associations.
We strongly encourage players, coaches, parents, and spectators of all ages to enrol and become part of this pathway.
Yellow Shirt Umpires
The Yellow Shirt Program (J-Ump Squad) builds on the Green Shirt pathway and prepares developing umpires for the next level.
Participants umpire morning games and learn to be the lead umpire, including game procedures, protocols, rule application, and managing spectators. The program focuses on building confidence, practical skills, and match control.
This is a key stepping stone toward higher accreditations, including the National C Badge, and prepares umpires for greater responsibility and future progression in the umpiring pathway.
White Shirt Umpires
The White Shirt Program (Intermediate Umpires) is the next development stage for umpires working toward a National C Badge.
Umpires at this level focus on consistently officiating to C Badge standard, while developing strong game management, positioning, rule application, and confidence. This stage supports umpires as they refine their skills in a structured and supportive environment.
